Five for Friday

Oh Happy Day, Oh Happy Day!  It is FRIDAY!  And not just any Friday my friends, but the Friday before Spring Break!  I may or may not skip down the halls of school today on that happy news!  So howzabout a little Five for Friday?  Thank you so much to Kacey at DoodleBugs Teaching for hosting it!

What happened this week?

Cinderella!  You are NEVER too old for Cinderella!  This Grammy took Great Grammy to see Cinderella this week.  Such a great movie….everyone should see it!  And what a great message for girl…and everyone for that matter….”Have Courage and Be Kind!”   This movie is a keeper!

Hockey anyone?  You know we are on the countdown to the end of the year when the annual Teachers versus 5th Graders Hockey Game is held in the gym! I’m happy (or embarrassed)  to say that for the 26th year in a row, the teachers have beat the 5th graders, and with a score of 33 to 19!  (Sheesh…you’d think the teachers would let the kids win, wouldn’t you?  We have a very competitive staff!)  It’s always so much fun though, and the whole school loves it!

Life In Newfieland Episode #1032!!!  When you have two huge, ginormous Newfoundland puppies, life is an adventure Every.Single.Day!  I took our Golden Retriever to the vet the other day and evidently the newfies were not happy that they didn’t get to go! (We have the best vet ever, so I don’t blame them.)  We came home to widespread powdered sugar, dried noodles, and a bottle of olive oil on the floor!  Yep, our dogs are geniuses!  They figured out how to get into the pantry! Evidently, they wanted to do some cooking???  A new kind of alfredo maybe? We’re so blessed to have such smart dogs, aren’t we?  Gotta love them!  We sure do!

Boys and Books!  Boys and Books!  This week in intervention groups, we were reading books tailor-made for boys and they couldn’t get enough of them!  It just warms this teacher’s heart to see intermediate….”I don’t like reading”….boys, DEVOURING books!  This week’s titles included “Horse Hero” about a horse who saved his owner in the terrible wildfires that swept through Australia a couple of years ago, and “Smokejumpers” about firefighters that jump by parachute in to wildfires to help fight them!  We may have to read these several more times before they are satisfied!  LOVE IT!

Spring has sprug! This week in class, Lindsey and her second graders read one of the passages from our Spring Passage Set.  After doing some close reading of “Spring Changes,” they made these cute rainbows and wrote adjectives describing spring, on the colors. Such a fun way to practice adjectives!

That’s all from this corner of the world!  Now we’re off to catch up on what you all have been doing by reading all of your Five for Friday posts!  And Happy Spring Break to all of you that have it this coming week!

Smiles,
Kristin

Isn't it exciting when you see kids who previously hated to read getting excited about it?! It is one of those things that makes you want to keep teaching! I love your spring rainbow craft – super cute!

I cannot wait to see Cinderella with my girls. It doesn't hurt that Cinderella also plays on Downton Abbey.

Ahhh…Downton! Love Downton! And did you know that not only is Lily James from Downton in Cinderella, but also Sophie McShera "Daisy" is too? That was a surprise to me. Great movie! You will love it! Smiles, Kristin
