Five for Friday

Friday!  Friday!  Oh how we love Friday!  And it’s a half-day Friday for us to boot!  Yippee!
In reading intervention groups this week, we were talking about how author’s use really great words for different reasons.  Sooooo…in honor of that….Kristin’s Five for Friday this week all have great words to go with them!

Serendipity!  Don’t you just L.O.V.E. that word?  Serendipity is when you go to work on a Wednesday and find these beauties sitting on your desk!  For no reason….totally unexpected……just cheering up your little corner of the world!  They were a surprise from one of our fantastic custodians!  She is just the nicest person you would ever want to meet and takes such good care of us!  And every so often…..I find a surprise like this in my office!  Wow!  Serendipity!!

Hysterical!   Soooo…out of the blue this week I receive this hilarious card from my daughter-in-law!  For no reason except that it is hilarious and seriously wacky and she wanted to share the fun!  That’s the kind of humor we have in our family, and our precious D.I.L. fits right in!  So it says……”If I was on a kickball team, I would pick you first!  And we would be called the Possums.  And we would go on the field and all fall down and act dead!  Then when the other team left, we would jump up and claim our victory!  Oh and you would be the shortstop!  Go Possums!”   I KNOW!  Hilarious, right??  Okay…if you are going “huh?” right now…..I am happy to tell you that YOU are normal. It’s us that are wacky.

Joy!  See this beauty?  It is an almond joy cupcake!   That’s right!  An ALMOND JOY CUPCAKE!!!!  It is a taste sensation!   Every morsel an endless delight!  And I HAD to make them last night…poor me…. tee hee….because today we are celebrating our sweet Music Teacher’s birthday at lunch!  She is an a-ma-zing music teacher and we just think she is the best!  So she deserves the best……and this cupcake is IT, let me tell ya!  You have got to try these!  It is delicious chocolate cake with a filling of coconut creme goodness, topped with coconut frosting and sprinkled with more coconut on top!  And if that is not enough…you drizzle chocolate sauce over the top and add an almond, of course!  Yummy….does not even begin to describe these beauties!  Oh my!   The recipe is all over Pinterest, so get  yourself over there and check it out!  No wait……finish reading this first, ‘kay?

Happiness!!!!!   And just when I was thinking this week couldn’t get any better……Happiness, Happiness, Happiness came by way of an email telling us that our son, D.I.L.  (yep the awesome one who sent the possum card)  and adorable grandson, have booked tickets to fly home from Texas for Christmas!  Can we say tears of happiness all around?  They haven’t been home in absolute eons…..well okay a couple of years…but like I said…..eons….and this girl is happy, happy, happy!  We were thinking they weren’t coming this year either, then bing!  The email surprise arrived!  Aren’t they adorable?  Can.Not.Wait.To.See.Them!!!!!

Sweetness!!  This is our Rosie. She is one of our Newfoundland siblings and is sweetness defined!  Our three crazy dogs are always helping me plan my lessons for the upcoming week and this is Rosie’s suggestion.  It is a terrific heart-tugging  book about adopting a pet and makes for great “connections” lessons.  So Rosie gives it a four-paws-up rating because it has a dog in it named….you guessed it…Rosie!   Check it out!  “Let’s Get A Pup! Said Kate” by Bob Graham.   Happy Reading and a woof, woof  from Rosie.

That’s all from the beautiful Evergreen State this week!  Hope you have a serendipitous weekend!

I loved reading this post so much! Sounds like you had the best week ever! My favorite word is parfait- as in Peanut Buster Parfait from the Dairy Queen. We actually have a bulletin board display in our school right now with each teacher's picture and favorite word. There's a QR code attached to each and it connects to a video of the teacher explaining why the word was chosen! Of course I picked parfait!

Hi Carol! I love parfait! It is the perfect word…especially when it is tied to the most delicious Dairy Queen Peanut Buster Parfait! Love your bulletin board idea too! I bet the kids and school visitors enjoy that! Such a great idea! Thanks so much for connecting with us!
